Catch Your Moment Foundation Hosts Take-a-Kid Fishing Event in Northern Minnesota

The weather conditions were perfect for a beautiful morning on the water in Northern Minnesota. Minnesota hosts an annual Take-a-Kid Fishing event every June, and this year, the event fell over the June 8th weekend. Located north of the city of Duluth, MN, is a 110-year-old reservoir called Fish Lake, where this year's event took place at Hi Banks Resort.

The day began with the children being greeted off the bus and instructed on proper boating safety. They also learned about "Clean, Drain, Dry" invasive species reduction techniques, which were well received. After the instructional session, event staff organized the kids into groups and assigned them to volunteer Boat Captains, most of whom were members of the Twin Ports Walleye Association. Each group of kids received a few hours of on-the-water angling instruction and had a great time fishing. Most of the kids were able to catch some

type of fish, with a couple of them even catching 25-inch-long walleye. It was a memorable experience for all participants, both young and old. The success of this year's Take-a-Kid Fishing event was made possible by the contributions of many organizations, businesses, and individuals. We want to express our gratitude to Northwood Children's Services for allowing us to be part of this wonderful event. Sixty-three kids traveled to enjoy a day on the water, learning about angling, enjoying some grilled food, and exploring the resort grounds. The owners of Hi Banks Resort on Fish Lake also deserve a huge thank you for graciously hosting the event. Many of the boat Captains stayed afterward to share their fishing stories. The Twin Ports Walleye Association once again provided fantastic support, providing eleven boats and Captains to assist with the angling. We also want to thank the National Professional Anglers Association, Future Angler Foundation, and Catch Your Moment Foundation for acquiring fishing rod combos for this fishing clinic and angling event.
